What is Assets Under Management (AUM)?
Assets under management is the total market value of the investments a fund, manager or firm looks after for clients. It rises and falls with both market moves and money flowing in or out.
Why it matters
For a fund, higher AUM can mean economies of scale and easier trading, though very large funds can find it hard to move nimbly. For ETFs, AUM is a quick gauge of popularity.
