What is Coupon?
A coupon is the fixed interest a bond pays its holder, usually stated as a percentage of the bond’s face value each year.
Why it matters
A $1,000 bond with a 4% coupon pays $40 a year, usually in two payments. The coupon stays fixed even as the bond’s market price moves.
